Jurassic Mojave Beige is an all-natural, earthy light colored sand from the Mojave desert. It is perfect for therapists that desire a neutral-color sand in their sand tray. Sand from the Mojave Desert has a soft texture and each grain is about the size of a pure white cane sugar crystal.

This sand is hand washed by us to remove the dust that would upset the allergies of you and your clients. A side benefit of this washing is it helps to eliminate the nuisance dust common in most other sands which can trigger asthma. This benefit alone makes it ideal for indoor use. 

Mojave Beige is one of our most popular Jurassic Sands among therapists. If you are seeking a natural looking earthy neutral colored sand than our Mojave should be at the top of your list.

If the color isn't your key selection feature we suggest considering our other sands that have proved exceptionally popular with therapists. They are in order of popularity: Original Jurassic with its beautiful orangy-red color and silky clean texture, either of our Sparkly White StarDust sands which have perfect texture and cleanliness or for something with more texture, try Jurassic RiverBed.

FYI, just a quick note on our other sands so you have the complete picture of how they fit into your practice. KnotSand is 1/3 the weight of sand which makes it perfect for therapists that have to do home visits or move from school-to-school. Real QuickSand is just that and clinically relates to clients who metaphorically feel like they are sinking or stuck in quicksand. Purple Pink Garnet has no clinical connection that I am aware of but it has a powerfully attractive color and gemstone quality.

Now for the fundamentals you need to know. All of our therapy sands come in the following sizes: quart and half-gallon bags for those that want the sensory, grounding aspect of sand and want to fill a small bowl or tray. (We also sell just a cup of our gemstone sands Sparkly White StarDust and Purple Pink Garnet).

Next up in size is our 25 and 50 pound boxes. Remember, regulation-sized sand trays need 50 pounds to fill them to the mid-point while the 25 pound box is ideal if you are using an alternative container like a Rubbermaid tote or just topping off what you've lost over the years.

As far as shipping cost, everyone knows sand is heavy and heavy normally means it's expensive to ship. In order to save you money, we subsidize the majority of the cost of shipping and only charge you $10 per each product for USPS Priority Mail shipping!

Geologist Jerry first ran across this beautiful sand while exploring the Mojave Desert for rare metals that occur in minerals like titanium and the minerals silver and gold. Surprising to most people is that Mother Nature will often hide these precious minerals and others – like tungsten- in amongst the sand grains.

Now before you get your gold pan out and start looking in your Mojave Beige Sand, keep in mind the percentage is so low, and the gold flakes so small, that it is impossible to get them out! In fact, they are so small they can only be seen with a powerful microscope.

And this is just one of the things that geologists search for when doing their job. Now what is also interesting is this sand does have great value to the ‘right’ users. Because it is the natural color of the Earth (as compared to terra-cotta colored rocks from the Grand Canyon), the lack of color makes it a perfect sand for those businesses that make window panes and windshield glass.

Geologists often call it ‘glass sand’ because that is what its primary use is and the Mojave is the place it can be found. A quick note about the Mojave Desert (sometimes spelled Mohave). It extends from California (think of Palm Springs) through Nevada, a little way north into Utah and as far south as northern Arizona.

It’s a big desert and even includes famous Death Valley where the hottest temperature on Earth was ever recorded - 134 degrees Fahrenheit – in 1913! And to prove how hot Death Valley is, the average temperature in July is over 116 degrees every day!

The Mojave Desert is also the driest desert in North American. Since Death Valley is a National Park we have great record keeping on temperature and rainfall. Average rainfall is less that 2 ½” a year. But don’t worry because Winter, Spring, and Fall still great times to visit the Mojave Desert since the weather is beautiful.
